2008 Cherry Red
58% Zinfandel, 20% Mourvedre, 15% Syrah, 7% Petite Sirah

This lush and young beauty first strikes with hints of black cherry, tar and cinnamon. Its velvet texture is packed with natural acidity and hints of smoked American wood. This wine is a dreamer and a believer all in the same glass. Dancing with a series of spins and flowing grace, Cherry Red will remind you why you fell in love with wine.

2008 Problem Child
72% Zinfandel, 16% Syrah 12% Mourvèdre

This vintage of Problem Child reminds me of what I love most about Zinfandel. A smoky nose with hints of ripe berry and lots of sweet clove. Solid structure with bursts of luscious blackberry, dried fruits on the mid and essence of orange. The total package! Drink now through 2015.

2008 Outsider
72% Zinfandel, 18% Syrah, 10% Mourvèdre

Tasting 2008 Outsider is like taking a two minute vacation. Just looking at it is fun. Its rich, deep purple hues alone are intoxicating. Then you stick your nose in the glass and are greeted with intense aromatics of cedar, blackberry preserves and fresh linen. Take a sip and flavors of dark plum, sarsaparilla, and roasted marshmallow await you on the palate, bolstered by a strong acidic backbone and supple tannins. It lingers on your palate for a moment, then finishes with just a hint of Cameroon leaf and dried stone fruits. Cellar 2 to 4 years.

2008 Sticks & Stones
57% Grenache, 29% Mourvèdre, 14% Syrah

When I am preparing to blend Sticks, I look for solid and aromatically concentrated barrels of Grenache that make your mouth water. On their own, these barrels are delicious but often lack finish and elegance. The introduction of specific Mourvedre barrels adds a subtle, earthy quality along with wonderful finishing tannins. A splash of Syrah softens any acidic feeling and brings about a lush palate. Upon tasting, the 2008 Sticks and Stones starts off with rich aromatics of boysenberry and raspberry that lead to a mouthful of of vine fruits with ints of roasted meat and tar. Ready to drink now, but can be held for three to five years.

2008 Rising Tides
50% Syrah, 25% Grenache, 25% Mourvedre

Like the oceans of the world, Rising Tides changes on a daily basis. A globetrotter of a wine, one minute you find yourself savoring new world flavors, while the next you are experiencing an onslaught of old world minerality. Plums and boysenberry predominate the fruit tones, followed by mouth watering flavor shots of roasted meats and toast. Consume this wine over the next 5-7 years.

2008 Slacker
70% Syrah, 25% Grenache, 5% Mourvèdre

Slacker starts with strong aromas of green and black olive, rhubarb and ripe blueberry. This wine’s mouthfeel is elegant and bright with notes of roasted lamb chops, cranberry and cedar. It finishes with a touch of toasty charcoal and minerals, and should be enjoyed with grilled meats and game sometime in the next 3-5 years.

2008 Nemesis
82% Syrah, 14% Mourvedre, 4% Grenache

In addition to the huge notes of fresh black and blue berries, intense aromatics of Mission fig, cinnamon, cardamom and sweet piecrust waft out of the glass. The mid-palate is so lush and velvety, yet still showcases that quintessential dusty Paso minerality. After a sip, the wine lingers, allowing you to chew on the supple tannins and ruminate on the sweet baking spices for minutes. Have a glass all by itself, or enjoy it with a roasted tenderloin of beef and braised winter root vegetables. This wine will age gracefully for 5-8 years.

2008 Overthinker
50% Grenache, 25% Syrah, 25% Mourvedre

Hailing from the west side of Paso Robles: an overachiever on some fronts and an underachiever on many more, is the unstoppable Overthinker. The 2008 Overthinker is a crowd pleaser, from its first days sleeping silently in its French Oak crib, to its clear and present champion status in the ring. Estate born, proprietor labeled, and a true expression of craftsmanship and playfulness.

2008 Screwball
70% Syrah, 15% Mourvedre, 15% Grenache

This vintage of Screwball is, in a word, huge. One of the most complexly aromatic LC wines to date, Screwball jumps out of the glass with bing cherry, cola, rose petal, cassis, licorice, dried meats, forest floor, purple sage, and mint. It’s a noseful, to say the least. On the palate, this wine’s mouth-coating, velveteen texture is woven with cacao, hazelnut, orange peel, and plum skins. And, if that isn’t enough, you get to sit and enjoy a finish of dark black fruits and succulent, chewy tannins that linger and linger and linger and... linger.  Decant and enjoy now, or cellar through 2015.
